چکیده

We analyzed samples of antigorite, lizardite and fibrous chrysotile, three representative minerals of the serpentine group, to determine their chemical and structural properties, and their FT-Raman spectra. The low-frequency region of the spectrum (1200– 200 cm–1), which corresponds to the lattice-vibration modes, was then analyzed, and the observed bands attributed, on the basis of our results. Raman spectroscopy thus proves useful in identifying the three mineral species, despite their strong similarities in structure and chemical composition. The symmetric stretching modes of the Si–Ob–Si linkages vibrate at different frequencies in chrysotile and antigorite, whereas chrysotile and lizardite can easily be identified by analyzing the vibrations of the OH–Mg–OH groups and the bands in the range 550–500 cm–1.

Environmental asbestos pollution related to use of quarried serpentine rock.

Crushed serpentinite quarried in Montgomery County, Maryland, has been extensively used for paving roads and other surfaces. The mineral assemblage includes antigorite or lizardite as well as chrysotile and tremolite. Air samples taken in the vicinity of serpentine-paved roads show that chrysotile concentrations are about 10(3) times greater than those typically found in urban ambient air in th...

Mineralogy, Geochemistry and Raman Spectroscopy of Multi-Genesis Serpentine Polymorphs of Darepahn Ophiolites

The present article pays to some Alpine-Himalayan ophiolites of Late Cretaceous age from Darepahn area in the southern part of Nain-Baft Ophiolite belt. Whole rock processed data clearly shows that the metaperidotite rocks are silica-poor with low CaO, Al2O3, and TiO2 that reflect the predominance of olivine over calcic pyroxene in the protolithes. The considerable content of Co (85.6–124.6 ppm...

کانی‌شناسی و نحوه تشکیل کانی‌های گروه سرپانتین در سرپانتینیت‌های آمیزه‌ی افیولیتی بافت در استان کرمان

Three types of serpentine polymorphs (lizardite, chrysotile and antigorite) are found in serpentinites from the Baft ophiolite mélange which are different in the textural features and chemical compositions. Lizardite is seen as layered structures that set in the matrix of peridotites, while antigorite is formed in veins or sheared zones as blade crystals and chrysotile develops as shiny and gol...

Kinetic analysis and in-situ IR/Raman spectroscopy of lizardite and chrysotile dehydroxilation

Low pressure dehydroxylation of serpentine phases is important in processes such as the inertialisation of chrysotile asbestos or the CO2 sequestration in ultramafic rocks. Although research on the mechanism of this process goes back to the forties of last century, the dehydroxylation mechanism is still not fully elucidated. In this study with used non-isothermal thermogravimetric (TGA) analyse...

کانی‌شناسی و ریزساختار چندریخت‌های سرپانتین در توالی گوشته‌ای مجموعه افیولیتی صحنه (شرق کرمانشاه)

There are three serpentine polymorphs (Lizardite, Chrysotile and Antigorite) in the serpentinites of ophiolitic mélange of south Sahneh. Lizardite is observed as flake structure in the matrix of peridotites while antigorite is overgrown on lizardite and chrisotile development is just restricted to the micro fractures as a development is restricted to the micro fractures as golden and transparen...
